The STAR Centre has an Amateur Radio station capable of transmitting worldwide to other Amateur stations including Space City. It also has the facility to track and communicate with satellites and the International Space Station, which includes voice communications as well as receiving images from space.
The equipment can be used as a listening station allowing unlicensed operators to receive signals.
Some of the activities in the Communications Centre include voice communications, SSTV and FSTV (receiving and transmitting images) , digital modes such as PSK-31, RTTY and Hellschreiber (communication via a PC interfaced to the radio) and other modes including Morse Code.
The equipment operates on HF, VHF and UHF and we have a large antenna array on the roof covering the different frequencies. We have RSGB membership and we are a registered examination centre, with qualified staff available to deliver Foundation Licence courses (please ring 01535 618294 if you are interested in this). Recent successes include the Air Cadets from Bradford.
The STAR Centre’s club callsign is MX0KSC, if you hear us on air feel free to give us a shout!
